Frenchman’s Bay Yacht Club Adult Learn to Sail offers a variety of different programs for adults and families alike to get out on the water in a format that is schedule friendly and accessible for all to enjoy. Whether it's getting out on our Shark 24, taking Start Keelboat Sailing or Basic Learn to Cruise course or to become a COOP member; we will help you find a new passion for you as an individual or family.
Start Keelboat Sailing (SKS) is the perfect entry level into sailing. The course is taught on a Shark sailboat and offers an ergonomic cockpit for learning in with your fellow students and your instructor. If you are interested in trying out sailing this is your entry point. If you have been sailing before and know that this is something for you or you want to be the person in charge on the boat, or just want to hone your skills, then have a look at Basic Cruising. Start keelboat Sailing is offered in a variety of formats. Minimum 2/boat.

To be able to cruise safely in familiar waters as both skipper and crew of a sloop-rigged keelboat of 6 to 10 meters with an outboard or inboard motor in moderate wind and sea conditions by day. The focus of this standard is on the development of basic sailing and seamanship skills as well as the knowledge needed to make the decisions expected of a skipper. This course is offered in a variety of formats. Minimum 2/boat.

A 4-week evening course (e.g., one night per week) designed for families or friend-groups (up to 4 people per boat, minimum 2 per boat). Uses RS Quest dinghies. Curriculum follows CANSail 1 standard for new students; returning students may enroll at CANSail 2 standard. Covers boat parts, rigging, points of sail, sailing maneuvers, capsizing, and more
Family Sailing: 2 nights weekly Tuesday or Thursday, 5:30–8:30 pm, $600 per boat (up to 4 people)

A 2-week course for 2 participants (e.g., couples) sailing RS Quest dinghies. Focus on maximizing on-water time, while learning CANSail 1 content — boat prep, sailing basics, maneuvers, capsizing, etc. Emphasizes fun and shared experience

For those who prefer a lighter, more relaxed water activity. Four 1.5-hour sessions over 4 weeks; offered Wednesday evenings (6:00–7:30 pm). Kayaks and Paddleboards and paddles provided; suitable for ages 12+, with youth 12–16 required to be accompanied by an adult. Lifejackets required.
